Arrange the above into a well-known phrase or saying.
What am I talking about? The continuing parlous state of the exhibition industry, of course.
Let me quote from one of many, many emails I have received from a single source:
It's only four weeks until RWM in partnership with CIWM plays host to over 600 suppliers, thousands of industry professionals and the largest collection of FREE seminar content to date.
The newly formed RWM in partnership with CIWM is a result of combining the former exhibitions RWM and Futuresource and has been given a face lift for 2011 through the joint expertise of both organisers Emap and the CIWM.
Now, I'm betting the reason for the 'partnership' is that neither show was viable as a stand-alone. So how will this combined show be better? The answer is it won't - unless the organisers have made a real effort to help exhibitors by making the show truly attractive to the right kind of visitor. Free seminars sounds good - if they are good. 'Face lift' sounds distinctly dodgy.
Please don't think I am picking on these particular organisers; the problem is endemic and the reason is clear (and has been for years). The reason for falling numbers of both exhibitors and visitors is that neither is getting the result they want. The solution lies largely, though not exclusively, with the organisers.
So come on guys, act your together get.
